JOIN THE TEAM RESPONDING TO HURRICANE HARVEY

You may have been wondering how recovery from Hurricane Harvey has been progressing these winter months. Good News! The Rio Texas Conference is ready to receive United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) teams and there is one from Yellowstone Conference. 

The team will be going to Sinton, Texas, from April 14 to 21, 2018. Teams at Sinton will work along the coast, probably in Rockport or Aransas Pass. There is work to be done for all ages and skill levels: roofing, tape-and-bedding, flooring, painting, and debris cleanup.  Once our team has been formed the work site coordinator will be able to match our team’s skills with a project.

This first Yellowstone Conference Harvey Recovery Team has room for 12 volunteers (must be 18 or older) You may apply to be a part of this team by following these steps:

  1. First, pray about your call to be a part of a mission trip for Hurricane Harvey Recovery.
  2. Submit your application online by clicking this link. The $50 registration fee is a partial payment of team expenses. Registration deadline is March 15.
  3. Safe Gatherings training must be completed.  This is an online training and background check through Yellowstone Conference.  If you need this training contact Dawn Skerritt, Disaster Response Coordinator.

Things you need to know:
You will need to make your own travel arrangements to arrive in San Antonio, Texas by the evening of April 14. The team will stay in San Antonio Saturday night then travel by rental car to Sinton.  Please make your return ticket home for Saturday, Feb. 21 from San Antonio.  We will spend Friday night April 20 in Sinton, so preferably flights leaving no earlier than 11:00 a.m.

The total cost of the trip will be $370 which includes: $50 registration fee, housing in San Antonio dbl occupancy, housing in Sinton, team meals on work days from April 15 to 20, $75 UMCOR work materials donation, UMVIM group insurance, and a share of work team transportation.

Once your application is processed you will receive a packet of forms to complete. The remaining payment of team expenses of $320 and all forms will be due April 2, 2018.
